Post 16 Transport Applications

Although Local Authorities are not required to provide free home to school/college transport for students in Further Education, Cornwall Council operates a policy of subsidised travel to Further Education for students aged between 16–19 (25 for students with special educational needs).  The cost of subsidised transport for the 2018-19 academic year is £450, payable either in full or in three termly installments (£150, £150, £150).  If your family income is below £16,190 per year your son/daughter may be eligible to receive the National 16-19 Discretionary Bursary or, for families with income between £16,190 and £31,000 there is a Wadebridge School Bursary, both of which can be used to help with transport costs, to check eligibility criteria please see separate details on our 16-19 Bursary page.

Cornwall Council have now made it possible for all Post 16 transport applications to be made using their online system.  A copy of the Cornwall Council 2018-19 Transport Policy can also be downloaded here.

The deadlines/timescales for applying are as follows:

  • Applications can be made at any time after the 01 June 2018. Parents are advised to apply as quickly as possible after this date.  Applications should be made by 10 August 2018 in order for students to receive their pass or other travel arrangements by 02 September 2018.

  • Where applications are received after the 10 August 2018 deadline, transport will not be in place for the start of the Autumn term. Applications received after the deadline will be considered as quickly as possible after all on-time applications have been processed. Students will need to make their own travel arrangements to and from the school/college in the meantime.
