Important information concerning the new Cashless System in the School Canteens

We are pleased to announce that we are now running a successful cashless catering system in the school canteens.  This system allows us to continue with the development of the school meal service and provides us with a more efficient, faster and ultimately better quality of service.

This system incorporates the latest technology and eliminates the need for our students to carry cash throughout the day.  It is also biometric (see FAQs) so there is no need to carry a card as the system will recognise the thumb print of the student at the revaluation pay-points and at the tills.

The advantages of this system are:

students won’t be able to ask for money from friends or other students

students will not be tempted to spend their money on the way to and from school

parents/carers can check what their child/children have bought/eaten during the day

as a school, we can incentivise healthy meal options to encourage students to make healthier choices

there will be less queuing at tills

The system is now up and running and as such, no cash will be accepted at the Till Points.  All students and staff will be given training on how to use the system and anyone new to the school will be registered to use the system at the beginning of the academic year.  Any amount of money can be paid into a student’s account and any money spent on food and drink will be deducted on a daily basis.  A daily ‘spend limit’ of £5.00 will be programmed into the system.  This can be increased or decreased for an individual student by making a written request to the school finance office.

We have two payment options available to parents – online payments and coin/note payments at the revaluation pay-point which is situated in the School Reception.  It must be emphasised that topping up your account on-line will be the most efficient way of using this system as the pay-point will require the student’s thumb print to access the account.  All payment options are explained within the FAQ.

If a student is not yet registered to use our cashless catering system, parents are requested to complete and sign a consent form and return to Reception as soon as possible.  As our school canteens no longer accept cash it is vital that this form is returned in order that a student can be registered, if the form has not been returned students will need to bring a packed lunch into school until they have been registered.  If parents choose not to have their child registered for the biometric system the school will provide them with a 4 digit PIN Code for the cashless canteen system.  Please note that PIN Codes do not have the same level of security and it will be the student’s responsibility to remember the code and to keep it secure at all times.
